History of Bountiful, Utah

On September 27, 1847 Perrigrine Sessions and his family were the first to inhabit the Bountiful area. After Salt Lake City, this was Utah's second settlement. The region was referred to as Sessions Settlement or North Canyon Ward. Finally in 1855, the area was officially named Bountiful. This name was fitting since the city was viewed as the garden spot of Utah. Additionally, "Bountiful" is a city's name in the Book of Mormon. The majority of inhabitants then and now are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS). It wasn't until 1892 when Bountiful was incorporated as a city.

As of 2000, it was determined that the City of Bountiful held about 41,301 people, 13,341 households, and 10,766 families. The racial demographics of the city was 95.56% White, 0.24% African-American, 0.27% Native American, 1.15% Asian, 0.32% Pacific Islander, 1.12% from other races, and 1.34% from two or more races. 2.90% of the population was Hispanic or Latino of any race. The median income for a household then was $55,993, and the median income for a family was $62,905. The city's per capita income then was $23,967.

Transportation around Bountiful, Utah

Recently, the city of Bountiful had two projects under construction to ease the city's traffic problems during rush hour. The city had just completed the construction of a commuter rail, FrontRunner. Another project called the Legacy Parkway was expected to be completed in 2008.
